Zombie musical premiers!
Cash Anthony

I am the producer of the first zombie musical feature film (Z: a Zombie Musical).
The Houston premiere of the film will be at the Studio Movie Grill Copperfield (8580 Highway 6 North & West Road, Houston, TX 77095) on September 22, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
There's a new posted trailer for our film at
http://revver.com/video/1119817/to-...bie-musical/
, the first trailer we shot.
If you're coming, please send me an email so I'll have enough chairs and space.
Admission is $7, and T-shirts and DVDs will be available at the screening for $15 each. I hope that you can attend the screening and also, can help me get the word out about the film.
The cast of the film includes eleven Houston actors. Kimberly Ensey (Miss Bikini USA 2001) plays Zombie Rollerbabe #1. Marisela Orozco is a featured zombie dancer; Junie Hoang is a zombie postwoman. Celeste Garcia, Vatsana Souvannavong, Travis Johnson, Gladys Otero, and Baron Otillar are citizens of Zomburbia. Gary Chason, (“Everything or Nothing”, “Dear Pillow”) who lived in Houston for many years and taught many actors there plays the Zombie Bathroom Dude. Amy Jordan (who grew up in Houston) is choreographer, lead singer and ZBI Agent #1. Maura Navarro (grew up in Houston) plays our Zombie Hooker.
“Z: A Zombie Musical”, the first zombie musical feature film, was completed in 2006. The film is written and directed by John McLean and stars Hanna Hardin and Rob Faubion. Hardin plays Faith, one of three nuns transformed into zombies by a pug dog while they are skinny dipping at Lake Travis.
They travel to Zomburbia, the home of the zombies, and meet the Honorary Mayor of Zomburbia (Joe King Carrasco) and Dan the Traveling Salesman (Faubion).
When Faith learns of a priest who can transform zombies back to humans, she heads toward his church. On the way she meets a zombie philosopher (Dan Eggleston). At the church, a zombie priest (McLean) locks Faith in a dungeon, but she escapes and eludes the pursuit. The film concludes with a love duet between Dan and Faith, singing a song composed for and performed by the Tosca String Quartet (“Waking Life”).
Amy Jordan is choreographer, lead singer and ZBI Agent #1. The film features a wonderful collection of original songs composed and recorded by various Austin musicians. An important inspiration for the film is the 1996 film, Alfred Packer: The Musical (also known as Cannibal: The Musical), Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s first film.
Dale Watson, and Mikki Singh (Mrs. NRI Global 2005) have cameo appearances, as do Peter Bay (conductor of the Austin Symphony) and Whitney Matheson (
http://blogs.usatoday.com/popcandy/
). Austin Mayor Will Wynn, along with former Austin mayors Bruce Todd and Jeff Friedman are zombie highway bums. Mark Zupan (star of the Oscar-nominated documentary “Murderball” and author of “Gimp”) plays a zombie badass.
Joe Ely, Michael Fracasso, Jimmy Lafave and Sara Hickman perform as a zombie guitar quartet.
Herschell Gordon Lewis (“Blood Feast”, “A Taste of Blood”), AKA “The Godfather of Gore” said of Z: a Zombie Musical, “Imaginative and impressive.” Z was screened at the Providence Zombie Film Festival in Providence RI in October 2007 and at the WT Os Film Festival in Norway in November 2007.
Cambofest wrote of our film "Musical number with the death metal zombie males singing is hilarious! Professor Zombie number is very funny!"
The Norwegian film festival folks wrote, "The film was one of our biggest audience successes, and I overheard people talking about it for days."
The Providence film festival staff wrote us "Generally, the crowd got into Z as they seemed very interested to experience a zombie musical. The Festival organizers - all four of us - are more than satisfied with screening Z. Thanks."
In connection with a screening in San Antonio at the Alamo Drafthouse, SA210 published an interview at
http://www.210sa.com/content/view/4516/
.
For the same screening, I was interviewed for Texas Public Radio on KSTX. The interview and two songs can be found at

Call for Entries ~ Accolade Named Among Top 25 Festivals
Deadline: August 22
Information:
www.TheAccolade.net
Now in its sixth year, top-tier, international awards competition, The Accolade, announces its Call for Entries for filmmakers, television producers and videographers.
The Accolade is a non-traditional, virtual venue. Awards go to those filmmakers, television producers and videographers who produce fresh, standout entertainment, animation and compelling documentaries. It is a showcase for cinematic gems and unique voices.
Most importantly, The Accolade team works passionately to help worthy productions gain the publicity and distribution they deserve. That is what The Accolade is all about: helping winners of this coveted award achieve recognition and distribution opportunities.
Every filmmaker, television producer and videographer wants credibility associated with their work and buzz about their productions. In addition to target press releases, clips of the Best of Show productions are streamed on The Accolade Web site, reaching thousands of industry professionals. The Accolade is an award recognized for its rigorous evaluation process by buyers and distributors, inspiring confidence that winning productions are of high quality.
Quality and creativity are celebrated in three levels of awards: Best of Show, Award of Excellence and Honorable Mention. Best of Show honors are granted only if worthy productions are discovered. Likewise, no more than 15% of entries are granted Awards of Excellence. Notable artistic and technical productions are recognized at the Honorable Mention award level. Annually, a special award is given to a production that makes a significant contribution to social change or a humanitarian effort.
The Accolade receives entries from all over the world: Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States.
MovieMaker Magazine recently included The Accolade among the Top 25 Festivals "Worth The Entry Fee." The article said, "Past participants can't stop raving about the professional opportunities participation in this event has generated for their work."

SESSIONS - casting call
Cash Anthony
07/11/2008 08:13
Casting Call for Sessions, a new series by 5films
5films is proud to announce Sessions, a 12 part web series to begin principal photography in August of 2008. The series will be shot on weekends spread out over the course of the 2008 and the first part of 2009. Principal characters will be required for all shooting days; recurring characters number of shooting days is listed. Exact shooting dates have yet to be determined.
Auditions will be held July 10 from 6 PM to 10 PM and on July 12 from 10 AM to 1 PM and 3 PM to 8 PM, in Houston TX.
You can sign up for an audition online at
http://www.5films.com.
Click on Auditions, and use the form to upload a headshot and resume, and schedule an appointment. Sides are available there as well.
Sessions will be a contracted, differed payment project. The business plan for the series includes advertising revenue, season 1 DVD sales, and potentially a TV spot.
Sessions is a hilarious look into the professional life of Dr. Phil Dick, PhD. It has an assortment of fun characters most of whom make up Dr. Dick’s patients. The series will be shot documentary style in a real office in Conroe TX. Character descriptions follow.
DR. PHIL DICK - LATE 20S EARLY 30S - PRINCIPAL - 12 EPISODES
Dr. Dick, PhD, takes greater pride in his doctorate of psychology than in anything else. His signature style of psychology involves a collection of index cards with quotes from his favorite psychologist, philosophers and CSI episodes.
A young psychologist, he believes he can fix anything -- and if he hasn’t heard of it, it doesn’t exist. Comedic timing is important with this character. While keen on some things, Dr Dick is oblivious to a lot. He thinks he’s a genius with women, but in actuality he has a lot of to learn.
The 12 episodes will be shot over a total of 12 weekends. The exact dates will be determined later.
HENRY - LATE 20s - PRINCIPAL - 12 EPISODES
Henry has been working for Dr. Dick for many years, so he is used to the good doctor's abnormal methods. He handles all the insurance information for Dr. Dick. Henry constantly is butting heads with Summer, the pregnant receptionist. They have a semi-playful banter that helps fill the void in their work day.
Henry is the most "normal" of all the characters in the series. However, he may be keeping some secrets of his own - he is gay.
The 12 episodes will be shot over a total of 12 weekends. The exact dates will be determined later.
SUMMER - 20S - BLONDE A PLUS - PRINCIPAL - 12 EPISODES
Summer is a good-looking girl without a lot of motivation. She has a somewhat playful banter with Henry, but they often times are at odds with one another in an effort to make office life interesting.
Summer is pregnant; she got pregnant with this “miracle” child right around the time she was about to lose her job at the office. She’s been pregnant now for 12 months.
The 12 episodes will be shot over a total of 12 weekends. The exact dates will be determined later.
BLIND DATE - LATE 20S OR EARLY 30S - RECURRING CHARACTER - 4 EPISODES
The Blind Date character is a fun character. She’s a free spirit, doing as she pleases. She’s Dr. Dick’s Blind Date in the first episode and becomes a love interest for him. She’s a perfectly legitimate sex tutor, helping older couples re-ignite their relationships. This is why she and Dr. Dick are good together, they both help people. She’s seeing one of Dr. Dick’s “associates” because she’s having a hard time getting over her last boyfriend… one of her clients. She’s good for Dr. Dick in some ways, but she’s got a secret that may be the end of them.
The Blind Date appears in episodes 1,6,8 and 12. These 4 episodes will be shot over a total of 4 weekends. The exact dates will be determined later.
"OLD MAN RIVER" - LATE 60s+ LOOK - RECURRING CHARACTER - 3 EPISODES
"Old Man River" is a patient of Dr. Dick's. Don't let his age fool you, he is one horny son-of-a-gun. He often acts out some of his sexual conquests during his sessions. He is brutally honest and graphic.
The 3 episodes will be shot over a total of 3 weekends. The exact dates will be determined later.
"PMDD GIRL" - 20s-30s - 1 EPISODE
"PMDD Girl" is one of Dr. Dick's patients. Her session with Dr. Dick is very... informational.
The 1 episode will be shot over a total of 1 weekend. The exact dates will be determined later.

Father 2 - Hell's Angel type, married to Mother 2. Drooping mustache, long hair, jean jacket, boots. Also a drug addict. Less consistently mean than Mother 2, but it's partially because he zones out a lot.
Teacher - any age, but best forty to fifty-five. African American. A bit over-worked, but a good teacher, intelligent, wants to help when she can. Though needs to sets limits or she'll go crazy.
Sleazy man - British guy named Stanley, hangs out in the playground selling drugs to children.
Dog Owner - nice guy, thirties. Pretty average, has a girlfriend but they don't live together. Loves his dog.
Woman in Hat (Jesus Christ) - African American. A surprise visitor in the netherworld. Proud of her appearance, wears an impressive "going-to-church" hat. Sassy and pointed in her comments.
Wise Man (Gandalf the Wizard) - another visitor in the netherworld. Dressed in long, white robes, he is an articulate and somewhat powerful wizard.

Film-making from the Ground Up
April 12-13 in Houston - Steve Mims
Cash Anthony
04/06/2008 15:18
From SWAMP:
Cinema Expedition
Saturday and Sunday, April 12 & 13, 2008
Rice University Media Center
9:00am - 6pm
Instructor: Steve Mims
Cost: $385
If you're embarking on making your own films your timing is fortuitous. The technology for shooting and editing has never been more powerful, intuitive and accessible. The methods of exhibition, distribution and dissemination have never been broader.
Perhaps the only thing you need now is a guide.
The CINEMA EXPEDITION is an intensive two-day overview of the crucial technical and aesthetic elements necessary for making a successful contemporary film. From film stocks and 24p HD cameras to Final Cut Pro to copyright law, the CINEMA EXPEDITION focuses on the important concepts and technologies you need in a logical, efficient and useful way.
No mere collection of facts, the Cinema Expedition is the first seminar of it's kind to focus on contemporary digital filmmaking as defined by the underlying bedrock motion picture techniques and production methods. It is a complete approach that covers: Basic 16mm film and digital imaging, cameras, lenses, metering, cinematography, lighting, audio, writing, directing, scene and sequence design, pre- production, production, post production, and digital non-linear editing using Final Cut Pro.
Can you do that in two days?
Sure. Austin based award-winning filmmaker Steve Mims has designed this seminar to distill twenty years teaching college level filmmaking down to its essence. As both a filmmaker and teacher working in both film and HD, Steve has necessarily kept pace with the evolving technologies while adapting them to a motion picture process that is the basis for single camera (or film style) production. At the University of Texas at Austin Steve taught Film One (the introductory 16mm filmmaking course) for four years. (This spring Steve is teaching RTF366K, INTRO TO NARRATIVE PRODUCTION at UT.) He first taught through Austin FilmWorks in 1993. His PRODUCTION ONE class evolved into the most comprehensive and practical guide available to beginning filmmakers. Austin FilmWorks CINEMA EXPEDITION is the natural hybrid film/digital video class that has evolved today. The class covers the issues of technology, design, and practical application of technique in a manner that blends bedrock filmmaking techniques with elegant digital tools.
About Steve Mims
Steve Mims is an Austin based filmmaker whose award-winning films have screened widely in festivals and on television. Vincent Canby of the New York Times called Steve's short AUNT HALLIE, "A treasure- which belongs on everybody's list of the top- 10 funniest nine-minute movies ever made." His film awards include the American-Soviet Film Initiative Pick (Ann Arbor Film Festival) the Gold Apple Award (National Educational Film Festival) and the Silver Hugo Award (Chicago International Film Festival).
Steve's short WEBB WILDER, PRIVATE EYE: THE SAUCER'S REIGN became a late night television cult film in the mid 1980's and helped spawn the roots rock band WEBB WILDER AND THE BEATNECKS and successful recording and filmmaking efforts that continue at the present time.
His feature film THE PERFECT SPECIMEN premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival and then on SHOWTIME. His concert film LIZARDS TIMES TWENTY: AUSTIN LOUNGE LIZARDS LIVE AT ANTONES, premiered at SXSW and was released on DVD by Blue Corn Records. His short film TANK 47 premiered at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and at the Austin Film Festival in 2004.
Steve earned a Master of Arts degree in film from the University of Texas at Austin and taught Film One, Film Two and Film Editing there from 1989 to 1993. For over fourteen years he's offered college-level filmmaking classes through his company Austin FilmWorks.
His most recent projects include a short biographical documentary "god/man/accordion", SOUTHFORK PILGRIMS, a short documentary about the fans of the television series DALLAS for the BOB BULLOCK TEXAS HISTORY MUSEM, and WEBB WILDER'S SCATTERGUN, which was filmed in August of 2006 and is now in film festivals around the country.
This spring Steve is teaching RTF 366K Introduction to Narrative Production at the University of Texas at Austin.

Learn to Audition - Austin workshop
Cash Anthony
08/03/2007 09:38
TEXAS ACTORS! INCENTIVES ARE IN PLACE AND READY NOW, BUT ARE YOU?
SUCCESSFUL AUDITIONS ARE THE KEY TO YOUR FUTURE.
Auditioning is a skill that can and must be perfected if you are to ever be a successful working actor.
Auditions are the "fast forward" version of acting - breakdown a script (scene)- develop a character - make choices that fit the script situation - only do it in twenty minutes and present the "finished" results, usually as a cold read!
Learn, perfect and practice these audition skills on camera with Barbara Brinkley, experienced CSA casting director and instructor. Barbara has 20 plus years casting principal roles for features, made-for-TV movies and episodic television.

Auditions near Houston this weekend
Cash Anthony
08/03/2007 09:21
San Jacinto College Central's Department of Theatre and Film & The SJCC Culinary Arts Department announce PUBLIC AUDITIONS.
Enrollment is not required.
The 12th Annual Family Dinner Theatre production is to be directed by Professor Richard Turner.
Open auditions will be held for the time-honored classic "Inherit the Wind," to be performed by San Jacinto College Central's Department of Theatre and Film.
The play has roles for 21 men, six women and many children. Adult and children's roles vary in size and are open for people of all ages and experience.
Auditions are open to anyone, and those auditioning do not need to be students at the college.
Based on the events surrounding the famous Scopes trial, Inherit the Wind is considered one of the most significant court dramas of modern history.
According to a recent review: "The portrait it draws of an explosive episode in American culture, vigorously written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, remains as fresh as it ever was. One of the most stirring plays in recent years retains its folk flavor and spiritual awareness."
Although all characters will be cast from the community and San Jacinto students, the two leading male characters, attorneys Drummond and Darrow, will need to be selected from the community. We know these two adult actors are out there, we just need them to come out and audition for these once-in-a-lifetime roles!!
AUDITION INFORMATION
Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. and August 6 at 7 p.m.
Auditions for adults and children (open to the public, no registration needed) will be held at the Powell Arena Theatre.

Local actor gets Lifetime role
Cash Anthony
06/26/2007 09:08
Local actor Evan Gamble had a featured part in the Lifetime TV Network movie presentation of "Girl, Positive," last night. The made-for-TV film starred Jennie Garth (Beverly Hills 90210), Andrea Bowen (Desperate Housewives) and S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order).
The film was a drama about the impact of gossip concerning an HIV diagnosis at a high school. Evan played Greg, Andrea Bowen's boyfriend.
At lifetimetv.com, you can click on "movies" to see a "Girl, Positive" movie promo, with a menu linked to additional information.
If you click on "movie video" on the menu and then scroll down, you'll see the characters' "vlogs," including Jennie Garth's, Andrea Bowen's and Evan's (including Evan's improvised "in character" interview about the HIV news in his high school and his reaction to it).
Also, Evan's band Two Guy Trio had a song in the movie. That is discussed in the "Music from the movie" section of the web page.
Way to go, Evan!

Before "Bordeaux" was a glimmer in his eye, Frank Eakin was an actor in one of my theatrical shows (and he was great fun to direct, too).
His daughter Amanda starred in my first short film,
False Negative
, and I like to think that's where she caught the acting bug. Now, here's news from Frank, now producer of
The Bracelet of Bordeaux
, which looks like it's going to be a mega-hit!

Hey Bracelet Friends! DON'T MISS THE LAUNCH! -- SAT., JUNE 30TH, 1 PM to 5 PM.
Three years to produce -- 300 actors -- 3 zillion supporters who made it possible.
Borders in The Woodlands is hosting our official launch event! Many of the main cast members and Director Casey Kelly will be there to sign your DVD. And of course -- RUFUS will sign his paw print!
In the last six months,
The Bracelet of Bordeaux
has been selected by major film festivals in the US and Europe.
Today, Bracelet was selected for a national tour, and will play in children's museums in 12 major cities in the fall.
Also, we were officially endorsed by the Coalition for Quality Children's Media, which is a great stamp of approval to go with our Dove Foundation endorsement (and designation as "Family Approved" for all ages).
And there's more -- Steven Spielberg's foundation will be providing downloadable educational materials for the Educators section of our website!
What's next? Borders and Barnes & Noble will test market our unique book-DVD product in Texas and Ohio starting in August (the DVD will be imbedded in the front of the novel). If all goes well, we have a shot at a national bookstore rollout!
Next week, Borders is planning our DVD launch event for the 30th and would like to know the number of people attending -- if you'll be able to come out and support our DVD launch, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing Lorie Kapila at
BofB@houston.rr.com.
Bring the kiddos! We deeply appreciate your support.
Thanks so much, and we are looking forward to seeing you at the launch!!!
