Talked to the manager, he let me look at the router/hub setup...turns out after I had to check all 25-30 ethernet connections and thru about 3 hours of trial and error I found he had a rogue loopback between two hubs that was causing an echo and pretty much jamming up any DHCP requests or any meaningful LAN traffic...simple fix and POW...the entire motel instantly had internet.

Guy offered a free night..but I had already paid and was leaving the next morning...

If nothing takes a turn for the worse, in about 30 months from now, my wife and I will finally be at our goal of only a house payment and one car payment.

About five years ago, we finally got to the point of doing Christmas on a cash only basis.

To the younger crowd.... stay away from the credit cards... (maybe one for emergencies, such as a break down on the road - having to get a big screen TV because your neighbor just got one is not an emergency). The finance companies only push the immediate self-gratification side of things. They won't tell you about the down side.


OOPS forgot to mention...the plan we used was Dave Ramsey https://fpuonline.daveramsey.com/ (we did the online thing and the package deal together) yah...I think anyone with 1/2 a brain could do this..but he puts it in an easy to follow package and motivates you to do it right. (only a $180 payment and our last credit card is paid off...the only debt I owe is my home and whats left on a $25k 401K loan I took about a year ago [stupid stupid stupid!]

That type of price discrepancy would make me suspicious but if it is a genuine Arai item and not used or damaged ... I wouldn't have a choice in where I shopped if it were leaving that much money on the table.
That said, I prefer to support local shops and dealers whenever practical.
When I bought my first 'gear' (m/c specific) jacket, I found it here at a dealer discounted to $110.99 from the norm $179.99. Previously I did a number of searches and found it online, but never at a better price or even within $40 of what I paid. I'm still not going to sell out the local shops just to save a few dollars ... it's got to be an embarrassing number ... kind of like the one you illustrate.
There is no substitute for getting the right product and the proper fit and function ... very easy to accomplish in the 'brick and mortar'.
Doing it on-line would mean going into the store to check the feel and fit anyways (using the retailer) unless you chance it and have the time and patience to wait and the possible return if it is not exactly the fit.
To me, that is gambling and time / money wasted so what did I actually save unless I got lucky? Then I have to police my account to see that I get the correct credit.

Are there other hobbies or discretionary expenses you can taper off to help fund these other two priorities?

I took a p/t job years ago to pay down some debt faster and get back into the housing market after renting for 6 years .... not everyone can do another job though if they have daycare issues or other obligations/conflicts.

One thing I've learned over many years of being a consumer; Even though the products (motorcycles) of today are excellent values, the trickle-down of technology and typical market competition will make next years model an excellent value and this is a boon to the pre-owned market as well. You can easily do some quick research to see how the value of a new or used 650 changes from year to year and this should give you some idea of what to expect.

The chances are quite good that a pre-owned bike you want today will very likely be cheaper when you delay getting it .... or the new bike you want will have some newer sleeker design or safety features on it for the next model go-round. Sometimes the model it outdates is a good value and discounted further, other times the new one is a slight step in price while offering distinct advantages well worth the model year increase. Just cut out a picture of the dream bike and stick it on the refrigerator as a reminder to squirrel away your pocket change and cut out any 'extras' or luxury spending if applicable. Yes, if you have a BWM parked in the garage already, the house value goes up and it's easier to sell... [:D].

And just because the picture is on the fridge .... try not to increase the intake of sugars and calories ... I gained a few pounds last year but I had a photo album of toys on my fridge. [:)]

Basically you are allowed to bring in one non US Spec vehicle, once, during your lifetime. You need to contact a company that specializes in the service of taking possession of the vehicle at the port of entry and bring it into DOT compliance (lights, tires, etc) and certifying it. I know of no companies that do this for motorcycles and doubt that the cost would be justified. Google "importing a non us spec vehicle to the USA" or "importing a grey market vehicle" and that should get you started.

I found that the de-registration and export process when I shipped a German car from the "Magic Kingdom" was far more complicated than the process at this end, which was none-the-less not exactly a piece of cake in spite of dealing with an experienced and reputable company that specialized in grey-market imports.

In terms of overall efficiency, natural gas is better. Natural gas use tends to be discouraged in portable appliances. I don't quite understand either. The odorant makes it easy to pick off a leak, anywhere in the room. I can't say that about an overheating electrical connection. Dell shipped it via DHL and promptly sent me an email notification with the tracking details. Curiously, on the supposed date of delivery, we only received the promotional antivirus software that had been separately packaged. A call or two later to DHL and Dell, and I was told to come to the local DHL facility since they supposedly didn't deliver to my address (curiously, Dell never suggested this was the case).

I show up to DHL and, after 30 minutes of rummaging around, the clerk tells me that our laptop is on the driver's truck and would definitely be delivered later that afternoon. That afternoon came and went and still the much-anticipated laptop - and Christmas gift - didn't arrive.

The following week, our local news broke the story that contracted employees at the local DHL facility had been stealing various Dell packages for weeks.

I have enjoyed everything that Greg Iles has written - finding a favorite would be very difficult. Spandau Phoenix, Footprints of God, Black Cross, the Crying Game. He does a great job at bringing you into the story, and I have a hard time putting his books down.

Dennis Lehane - Gone, Baby, Gone; Mystic River, A Drink Before the War, Prayers for Rain. Great stories with interesting twists. Gone, Baby, Gone was the first book of his that I read - the ending took me by surprise and I've been hooked ever since.

David Lindsey - Mercy is probably my favorite of his books, but all of his books are good. Heat from Another Sun, Requiem for a Glass Heart, Spiral. Good psychological thrillers.

Stephen King has been a favorite since I was a teenager. My favorite book is The Stand, but I love all his classics (The Shining, 'Salem's Lot) - The Dark Tower Series, Bag of Bones, The Talisman.

I'm not so sure on the "off limits for telemarketers" on calling cell phone numbers. That was true for many years but I believe there may have been a change in those laws / rules. Over the past 12 -18 months, I've received more than a few emails from friends or family passing on that exact info and the link to register as DO NOT CALL. I didn't think to check it with snopes though.
