one of my scooters(yamaha 250 virago 95')gets little use, after starting this spring,it started leaking gas from what appears to be from the over air filter canister. the line goes from the canister to the carb. is there something constricting in the carb that would cause this problem.

Probably the float stuck open. Could be rust or detritus preventing the valve from seating or gunk hindering movement.

Best answer is clean the carb. Possible short term answer is to tap on the carb. Use a wooden block or dowel up against the carb and tap on the other end of the wood with a hammer. May or may not work. Even if it does you probably have some carb cleaning in your future.
