Traffic Crash - Fatality Black Forest Rd @ Fox Trot
On 10-22-16 at approximately 1365 hours, Stetson Hills Officers were dispatched to Black Forest Rd. and Fox Trot Ln. regarding a fatal traffic accident involving a truck and a motorcycle. As a result of the crash, all traffic on Black Forest Rd. between Vollmer Rd. and Cowpoke Rd. is shut down for the investigation. We will update this ETACS when the road is re-opened. Investigation revealed a motorcycle was northbound on Black Forest Rd. when the driver encountered traffic congestion. The driver then attempted to pass the line of northbound cars by driving in the southbound lane. The motorcycle then struck a vehicle which was attempting to turn westbound onto Foxtrot Ln. from northbound Black Forest Rd. The motorcycle was traveling at a very high rate of speed at the time of the collision. The motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment for injuries suffered in the collision. That driver's injuries are not believed to be serious at this time. The identity of the motorcycle driver will be released pending next of kin notification.

10-21-16 Traffic Crash - Fatality 4200 N. Academy Blvd Location
On 10-21-16 at approximately 2006 hours, Stetson Hills Officers were dispatched to Austin Bluffs Pkwy and North Academy Blvd, north of in the southbound lanes, regarding a fatal traffic accident. The accident involved a van and a motorcycle. Southbound Academy Blvd will be temporarily closed from Meadowland Blvd to Austin Bluffs Pkwy during the investigation, which is ongoing at this time. We will update this ETACS when the road is re-opened. Investigation into this accident revealed a motorcycle was being driven at a very high rate of speed southbound on N. Academy Blvd., north of Austin Bluffs Parkway, when it struck the rear of a van which was also southbound on N. Academy Blvd. Both the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle were ejected from the motorcycle and killed. At this time detectives are trying to determine their identities.
Both speed and alcohol are suspected to be factors in this collision. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet but the passenger was not.
These are the 22nd and 23rd traffic related fatalities in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year there were 22 traffic related fatalities in the city.
