At the start of this summer I sold my V-Strom 650 and bought a new BMW R 1200 RT. I did a little local riding then had the initial service done and some additional lighting installed.
I made an overnight trip from the north Oregon coast north to Port Townsend to get a feel for travel with some gear. After that I made a 2100 mile trip taking me from the Oregon coast to Glacier National Park with a really short side trip into Canada. The bike is very nice. Cruise control is a great feature when touring. Not to mention the smooth ride, plenty of power, electronically adjustable wind screen, and great handling.
I have a trip report here: http://www.archcape.com/events/2017...p/index.html
This is the route:

Daily mileage looks about right for that sort of trip.
I tend to look for roads where a cruise control isn't of much use, but everything else about your trip sounded great. I need to start taking longer trips. |
