So I have been searching for a vintage two stroke Japanese motorcycle to restore and ride. Found it, needs just a bit more work and it will be ready for a test ride. Came out very good for a 47 year old machine. All that's left to do is, she needs new points, two sets believe it or not. Carbs need re-jetted and the tming set.
Have not ridden a two stroke in many years really looking forward to trying her out.
This will be my ride around town on nice days machine, I kinda of figure that's about all I am going to be able to handle anyway.

Looks clean for that age. I don't remember that model, but it looks like the RD350's father. |

Nice looking bike. Two things come to mind seeing the older bikes like that;
I was 7 or 8 years old when those bikes were around and my dad, grandfather and uncles all had bikes of that era. Seeing them takes me back to those days and when I was just getting started on mini bikes.
Also, here in Colorado Springs, those older bikes seem popular with the young adults and college kids downtown. Might be they are acquired through someone in the family or just by finding a bike at a good price. |

Kick start? I think I see it but for whatever reason I expected it to be on the other side.
Reminds me of the first bike I ever rode.

That's a prop .... kick start wasn't invented yet.

Aftermarket pipes for sure, I am trying to source a factory original exhaust, but they are rare and pricy. It's not really that loud just your typical 2cycle pop and bang.
Running Caster bean oil gives you that sweet smell bringing back a lot of memoriesof days gone by |

So the YR-1 is gone, and the next project is this 72 RD350. These are just fantastic two stroke machines that make gobs of power and are a real hoot to ride. |

Sweet looking machine. I was 11 years old when that thing was in the showroom and almost all my fun and most vivid family memories seem to be around those days. Cousins and were on mini bikes and roamed around northern Michigan on dirt roads and trails. Grandparents, aunts and uncles were leading the way most of the time on that style of bike from the late 60's into early 70's.
That will get the stares and respect of many passersby .... have fun. |
